Principals

Moez Kassam, Chief Investment Officer

As Chief Investment Officer of Anson Funds, Moez advises all funds under management and is responsible for investment strategy, trading, and overall investment performance. In July 2007, Moez co-launched Saunders Capital Master Fund LP which was the predecessor to Anson Investments Master Fund LP.

An active philanthropist, Moez sits on the boards of the Toronto Library Foundation, the Canadian Olympic Foundation and Ryerson University’s Technology Innovation Circle. The Moez & Marissa Kassam Foundation—dedicated to strengthening the health and vibrancy of vulnerable communities—is a regular benefactor of Doctors Without Borders, Toronto Foundation for Student Success and Camp Oochigeas, a summer camp providing memorable experiences for children affected by cancer. The Foundation’s generous contribution to Michael Garron Hospital is commemorated by the state-of-the-art Moez & Marissa Kassam Food Court, designed to nourish a burgeoning community of underserved patients, frontline workers and medical staff.

In 2018, Moez was named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 for extraordinary achievement in both business and philanthropy. Moez is an executive member of the Young Presidents Organization’s (YPO) Maple Leaf Chapter, where he serves as Education Officer. Moez also sits on the advisory boards of the Toronto Library Foundation and Immigrant Access Fund. Moez holds an MBA from London Business School and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.

Amin Nathoo, Principal

As a principal of Anson Funds, Amin advises all funds under management and is responsible for investment strategy, trading, and overall investment performance. Prior to commencing his employment with Anson Funds in January 2012, Amin worked as an equity research analyst at TD Asset Management. Prior to TD, Amin worked at Deloitte Consulting. Amin earned a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, and a BMath, Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. Amin is also a CFA Charterholder.

Tony Moore, CFO, COO

Tony has been with Anson Funds since January 2013, and is responsible for middle and back office operations. Prior to joining Anson Funds, Tony was Director of Finance at Alpha Financial Technologies LLC from 2010 to 2012. Previously, he was an Audit Manager at Deloitte, joining the firm in 2005 and leaving in 2010. Tony graduated in December 2004 from the University of Oklahoma, with BBAs in Finance and Accounting, and a Master of Accountancy. Tony earned the CPA License in 2006 and the CFA Charter in 2014.

Sunny Puri, Principal and Portfolio Manager

Sunny has been with Anson Funds since April 2013, and is involved in all aspects of the investment process. Prior to joining Anson Funds, Sunny was an associate at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Sydney, Australia between 2010 and 2012. Sunny was also a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 2007 to 2010. Sunny graduated 2007 from the Schulich School of Business at York University, with a Bachelors of Business Administration (Honors) in Accounting and Finance, and is a Chartered Accountant (CPA CA) in Canada.

Taheer Datoo, Principal & Portfolio Manager

Taheer has been with Anson since 2016, primarily focused on North American small-cap equities, special situations and thematic investing. Prior to joining Anson, Taheer worked as an investment banker for BMO Capital Markets in their Global Metals & Mining group. Taheer graduated from McGill University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance.

Laura Salvatori, General Counsel

Laura has been with Anson Funds since March 2019. Prior to joining Anson Funds, Laura was General Counsel and Senior VP, Human Resources at Match MG, a leading North American PE-owned marketing agency headquartered in Connecticut. Previously, she was Vice President, Assistant General Counsel at Goldman Sachs in New York City. Laura also worked as a securities law attorney at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York City and prior to that, was at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto. Laura is admitted to practice law in New York State and Ontario. Laura holds a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business.

Portfolio Managers

Michael Missaghie – Portfolio Manager

Michael Missaghie is the Portfolio Manager responsible for all aspects of the investment process for Arch Anson Tactical Real Estate Fund. He was previously Vice-President and Senior Portfolio Manager with Sentry Investments, responsible for managing more than $1 billion of global real estate equities, and lead manager of the Sentry Global REIT Fund, Canada’s largest dedicated global real estate mutual fund. Michael has numerous management contacts in the real estate sector and an intimate knowledge of the assets and capital structures underpinning global real estate equities. During his career he has supported many successful public REIT investments early in their life cycles with capital and structuring guidance. In 2012, Michael was awarded the Brendan Wood International TopGun Investment Mind Award, which is awarded to those with the best grasp of the industries in which they invest. Michael has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Salman Malik, Portfolio Manager, Anson North Star Tactical Equity Fund

Salman Malik is the Portfolio Manager responsible for all aspects of the investment process for the Anson North Star Tactical Equity Fund. Salman started his career at Barometer Asset Management (“Barometer”) in 2006. As a member of Barometer’s Portfolio Management Team, Salman conducted an in-depth and ongoing analysis of the North American equity and income markets. Working on both equity and income mandates has given Salman a unique perspective in determining which part of the capital structure is optimal at any given time to generate consistent positive returns. Salman earned an Honours BBA, Major in finance from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2005, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Jarrett Wegener, Portfolio Manager

Jarrett is the Portfolio Manager responsible for the Risk Arbitrage and SPAC portfolios in the AIMF and AEMF funds. He joins Anson from BMO’s New York office where he ran U.S. Special Situations / Risk Arb strategy. He brings 15 years of sell-side experience spanning Equity Research, Sales and Trading, focused on fundamental and event-driven idea generation in both the United States and Canada; he holds an MBA from York University and is a CFA Charter Holder.

Sagar Gupta, Portfolio Manager

Sagar has been with Anson since 2023 and leads the activism strategy. Prior to joining Anson, Sagar was the Senior Analyst (Head of TMT) at Legion Partners, a prominent small/mid-cap activist investment firm based in Los Angeles. In addition, Sagar served on the board of Momentive Global (MNTV), the maker of SurveyMonkey, from 2022-23 through the sale of the company to private equity. Prior to Legion, Sagar was an investment professional at Balyasny Asset Management (long/short equities) and KKR (private debt / special situations). He was also a founding member of Finchwood Capital, a TMT long/short equities investment firm, where he served as a Senior Analyst. Sagar began his career as an investment banker specializing in the technology sector at UBS and Blackstone. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Robert Mills, Associate Portfolio Manager, Anson North Star Tactical Equity Fund

Robert Mills is involved in both investment strategy and fundamental analysis for the Master Fund. Robert started his career at Raymond James Ltd in 2005 as a member of Equity Capital Markets and became a Vice President of Institutional Equities, and was awarded the First Coverage Top Performer Award in 2008. Robert holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Engineering) in Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) from Queen’s University and is a CFA Charterholder.

Kelvin Li, Investment Analyst

Kelvin has been with Anson Funds since mid 2019 and is focused on the Arch Anson Tactical Real Estate Fund. Prior to joining Anson, Kelvin worked in real estate private equity at Sandpiper Group and was primarily focused on public REIT activism. Kelvin graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in addition to completing two levels of the CFA exam.

Janek Boski, Investment Analyst

Janek joined Anson Funds in 2019 and focuses on long and short fundamental opportunities. Prior to Anson, he worked in investment banking and most recently in corporate M&A at Rogers Communications. Janek graduated with an Honours Business Administration degree from Ivey Business School.

Thomas Mircea, Investment Analyst

Thomas joined Anson Funds in mid-2020 and is primarily focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Prior to joining Anson, Thomas completed internships in investment banking at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets and risk management at BDO Canada. Thomas graduated from the University of Waterloo with a bachelor’s degree in Computing and Financial Management.

Josh Rosenblatt, Investment Analyst

Josh joined Anson Funds in 2021 is focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Prior to joining Anson, Josh was an Associate at BofA Securities in the investment banking group. Josh graduated with an Honours Business Administration degree from Ivey Business School.

Ronnie Liu, Investment Analyst

Ronnie has been with Anson Funds since September 2018 and is primarily focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Prior to joining Anson, Ronnie completed internships at Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan Private Capital group and at Information Venture Partners. Ronnie graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree with the Co-op option in addition to completing two levels of the CFA exam.

Nitish Dang, Investment Analyst

Nitish joined Anson Funds in May 2021 and is primarly focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Nitish graduated with an Honours Business Administration Degree from Ivey Business School and a Bachelors in Engineering Science in Software Engineering from UWO. In addition, Nitish has completed the first level of the CFA Exam

Gerard Toohey, Investment Analyst

Gerard has been with Anson Funds since January 2021 and is primarily focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Prior to Anson, Gerard completed internships with Hadley Capital and Arch Capital Management. Gerard graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Dean Capland, Investment Analyst

Dean joined Anson Funds in 2024 and is primarily focused on long/short fundamental opportunities. Prior to joining Anson, Dean held investment analyst roles at 1832 Asset Management and Delaney Capital Management. Dean graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
